The Jewish festival of lights, called Hanukkah, is celebrated around the world today. Hanukkah is a memory of a great miracle that happened a long, long time ago.
Hanukkah starts in late November to mid-December and lasts eight days.
Jews celebrating Hanukkah light a candleholder called a menorah for eight nights.
Each night a candle is lit and prayers, songs and small presents are exchanged. More traditional gifts during Hanukkah include money, coins (called gelt), and chocolate coins.
Two popular Hanukkah dishes are latkes, fried potato pancakes and sufganiyot, sweet, jelly-filled donuts.
Children play the Dreidel game - a game of luck which can be a lot of fun for the
entire family.
