Princess Elizabeth, was born on 21st April 1926 in London. She was the first child and had a younger sister called Margaret. The girls‘ parents were the Duke and the Duchess of York.
In 1936, Elizabeth’s uncle, King Edward VIII, stepped down from the throne because he didn’t want to be king anymore. After this, George VI, Princess Elizabeth’s father, became king.
Princess Elizabeth got married in Westminster Abbey in 1947. She was in love with Prince Philipp.
In 1952, Elizabeth was on a trip to Kenya when she heard that her father had died. She immediately returned home. Two days later she was officially made Queen Elizabeth II. The ceremony of crowning took place in Westminster Abbey in London.
Queen Elizabeth II ruled the United Kingdom for 70 years - she was the longest ruling queen of the country until she died in 2022.
Today, she is remembered for her kindness and her strong sense of duty. She had many grandchildren and was loved by people all over the United Kingdom.
